Now with Yahoo! Mail’s text messaging feature, you can also reach out to friends through their SMS-enabled mobile devices, without having to use a separate text messaging application.

With yahoo mail, you can send text message to your friends without downloading additional software. Convert a chat conversation or email message in progress to a text message—and vice versa.

Just press the link which says ‘ALL NEW MAIL’ at the top right side of your mail.

Click on ‘NEW’ option and then click on text message option. Or else make use of keyboard shortcut ‘t’. Enter your Friends Mobile Number and type your message.

You can send maximum of 5 messages to a single contact. If you want to continue sending messages to your friend, then your friend should send a message through his mobile, to your E-mail ID. And your friend may be charged for sending message to your E-mail ID.

Note: Wireless carriers may charge your contacts fees for receiving and sending text messages. But Yahoo! Mail users are not charged for sending or receiving text messages in Yahoo! Mail.

In India Airtel, Hutch, Idea, Reliance, CDMA-Reliance, GSM-Tata, Spice, BPL, MTNL, Aircel supports this service.

This new version of YAHOO MAIL also allows user to chat with HOTMAIL MESSENGER contacts.

Although, Free text messaging service was launched 7 months back, many users are unaware of this new feature. One of the reason is that yahoo account holders make use of YAHOO MESSENGER to send messages to mobile phones.
